MERCANTILE AND MASH
One of the newest restaurants to hit the Charleston scene, located in the recently restore office and retail building, The Cigar Factory, Mercantile & Mash is a sensory overload of culinary excellence. Upon entering I was immediately hit with the sheer quantity of nooks and crannies holding gourmet cuisine. Many different local companies are featured including Black Tap Coffee, Low Country Olive Oil, and many more.
The restaurant is a food hall concept, split into various sections that give it the feel of a bustling market place. One corner holds the meat section where you can buy select cuts of meat to go. A long bar reveals an open air kitchen setting where chefs and servers bustle to and fro. In the opposite corner is a bakery case that holds delectable looking pastries and fresh bread daily.
In the very center of it all lies the Café counter which is where you can order the selections that they offer from 11 am to 7pm daily. Personally, I ordered the Roast Beef sandwich with pickled and fried onions and baby arugula, on soft ciabatta bread. Like most everything else on the menu, it was truly delectable. Other offerings on this menu include the Mash Burger, a pork belly Bahn Mi sandwich, and a Croque Monsieur on brioche. The array of flavors and cuisine is impressive, especially considering how well they pull off each dish.
With free Wi-Fi, plenty of seating and light, it’s the perfect setting to get down to business – whether that’s working on your laptop or devouring the fine fare.
The entire ambiance is one of originality and openness. Large community tables sprinkle the space and a mixture of metal and wood accents fill the room. Worn wooden panels along the wall are interrupted with modern mirrored light fixtures.
Make sure to go check out Mercantile and Mash the first chance you get. We guarantee that you wont regret it!
